There
are special places in the world that capture the
heart on your first visit. Westport is such a
place. A town steeped in tradition, with a people
who extend a warm welcome to visitors.
Situated
at the mouth of island studded Clew Bay, Westport
is now the most popular holiday resort in the
West of Ireland. Stunning scenery complemented
by a host of activities ensures that all our visitors
can enjoy their stay in Westport.
The
premier activity that Westport has to offer is
our 18 Hole Championship Golf Course set in 260
acres of rolling parkland on the shores of Clew
Bay. It is situated in the shadow of Croagh Patrick,
Ireland's Holy mountain amidst some of the most
breathtaking scenery imaginable.
The
course which was opened in 1973 was designed by
the renowned British firm of Hawtree and Sons,
who amongst many other commissions designed the
new course at St Andrews. Westport has been the
venue for many National Championships including
the Irish Amateur Close Championship which we
have hosted in 1977, 1985 and also in 1997. The
maturity of the course and our fine clubhouse
ensures that Westport has now taken it's rightful
place amongst the best that Ireland has to offer.
